This is not a story I wanted to tell or thought I would ever have to tell . . .
My sister is Cassie Dockter-Reeves. Her husband, Jonathan Reeves, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday night just before midnight. She was there. She watched the horrible thing unfold in front of her face while their sons, Jude (8 years old) and Everest (11 months old), slept in the room next to them. The last she saw him alive, they sat on the couch and held hands together.
Cassie is so broken. Her world was shattered into pieces. He was her best friend, the love of her life, the father of her child, and the father of the bonus son she gained when she met him. My favorite thing about Jonathan was that he was a champion and cheerleader of Cassie and his sons, encouraging them always to move through the world in their own beautiful and unique ways.
So many of you already asked how you could help. Cassie and Jonathan lived simply. They didn't have much. They didn't need much. But they didn't plan for something like this. Please, I am asking on Cassie's behalf, that if you are able to give to help relieve the financial burden a loss like this leaves behind, it would be the most helpful thing you could do. Funeral/memorial service costs this week are already overwhelming and needed immediately.
If you can't give financially, please hold Cassie, Jude, and Everest in your heart and minds. Your loving energy is felt.
