Jonathan "Jonny" Minugh

Hi my name is Tiffany, and Jon (Jonny) was my little brother.

Anyone that knew Jon for more than a few minutes became his instant friend. He loved interacting with people and was the life of the party, no matter where that might be (grocery store aisle, gas station, on the boat... probably even in the bathroom). Jon loved to make completely inappropriate and ridiculous jokes and was abundantly self-deprecating in the process. He would do the craziest things just to keep those around him laughing. Sometimes it was annoying, most times it was embarrassing, and it was always hilarious. We are going to miss that humor and wit more than almost anything.

On September 17th, Jon, at the age of 49, passed away in his sleep leaving behind his wife of 19 years, and three children: Elijah (19), Sapphira (16), and Sahara (7). Devastated, gutted, heart broken, and grieved is the best way to describe this past week without Jon. Jon was the sole provider in his household, and prided himself in that. I know he often wished he could do more for them and worked hard to fill the gaps with laughter and love.

While our memories of Jon will continue to provide comfort, we are reaching out for more tangible support for Kat and the kids as they embark on a transition they never expected. Kat, with the support of friends of family, will rise above this tragic ending to Jon's life and step into the role of provider for their family. It is going to be challenging, but we believe in Kat! If you would like to offer words of encouragement or prayers, please do! Also, if you are able to contribute to help ease the burden of the coming weeks for Kat and the kids, we would be so very grateful.

One of Jon's favorite movies to quote from was Forest Gump. And in the immortal words of Forest, and now Jon, "that's all I have to say about that".

P.S. the family is hosting a 2-hour open-house style memorial service at Oahu Mortuary on Thursday, September 18th, 4:00 - 6:00pm. There will be no formal service or speakers. It is a chance to offer your condolences to Kat, Eli, Sapphira, and Sahara and say farewell to Jonny. All are welcome to attend; however, since Jon will be present in body, please consider whether bringing young children is appropriate for your family. Light refreshments will be served on the lanai throughout the viewing. A private cremation will occur the following morning.
