We are Sid and Phyllis Lanier of Georgia. Our only son, Jonathan, lived in Huntington Beach, California. On July 6 of this year, he was tragically killed in a fiery car crash on Hwy 395 in California. He was burned beyond recognition, and the coroner was unable to identify him until three weeks after the crash and many, many roadblocks that we were forced to navigate. We, his parents, flew to California immediately. Because he was our only child and was unmarried, there was really no one to help us find information to conduct the business related to moving toward closure. His twin 17-year-old sons live with their mother in Temecula. Everywhere we turned, there were obstacles, and everything cut into our budget. The expenses have mounted beyond our ability to pay. We are retired, on a fixed income, and live 2200 miles away. Dealing with a long-distance tragedy, with all the legal parameters and red tape, has drained our pocketbooks. Needing to return to California this month to have a celebration of life and walk our grandsons through the process of closure brings another expense with airline tickets as well as mounting costs in California.
All funds received will be used for travel expenses and accommodations in California as well as expenses for cremation, burial and bills left unpaid by our son. He did not have life insurance. Because he was homeless and living out of his truck his personal possessions were in storage buildings which we were forced to keep up rent on before we are allowed to access his belongings.
Please help us if you can. Any amount would be graciously appreciated.
