Dear Dad,
Thank you for fighting all these years for us, I know it wasn't easy. I remember that one night when I was still in middle school where you asked me if I saw you as a "sick" person but I said, "No, I see you as a strong fighter." It's been 14 years since you started your fight with multiple myeloma and to this day, that is still how I see you. Thank you for being my best friend and always being there to remind me of the more important things in life. You would always say "enjoy your life" and remind me that there were other paths to having a good life besides just doing well in school. Whenever we would be hyper-fixated on schoolwork or having a bad day in general, you would always find a way to cheer me up. Either you would buy me boba, food, or just lay on my bed, while I did homework, intentionally snoring LOUDLY until I started laughing and teasing you. You always believed that I could accomplish whatever I put my mind to and supported my dream of becoming a doctor. Thank you for always checking on my mental health, creating a safe space to talk, and being my voice of reason. You will be greatly missed but there is peace in knowing that you are now free of pain and fatigue. We hope to put you to rest soon so that we can all celebrate your new life in heaven. You will always be in our hearts and know that we will also be in yours.
Love,
your daughter Hannah Hong
