Dear Friends & Dear Family:
Why are we embarrassed at moments like these?
My medical situation is such that I am constrained to employ one of these appeals to ask for your help. When I myself have gotten them in the past I have usually thought: ‘Why the heck did it take him/her so long to ask?’ befote shooting off a few bucks; hopefully that is your reaction today. If I have hit you up for help in the past, mea culpa for asking again; if this is the initial request, thanks for taking the time to read this.
I am currently facing (among other problems) a pair of medical problems for which I am totally without available funds: serious dental care (which I have postponed far too long, and the doctors are telling me is exacerbating the pain at the situs of the cancer), and frighteningly now a severe problem with my eyes. Three days ago I lost vision in my left eye, and upon contacting my ophthalmologist learned they are no longer accepting my secondary carrier beyond the paltry amount Medicare will cover. Whether this is an infection or congenital or an offshoot of the cancer or my long-delayed cataracts suddenly flailing up I do not yet know. What I DO know is some sort of major (read: surgical) intervention has become necessary.
Folks: I am in major pain, and I am embarrassed, and my day-to-day functionality in life is being severely hampered. It has traveled beyond comfort and strayed over in to safety and life needs.
I recognize and understand that many of us are facing problems which we have not chosen to shift on to our family and friends and acquaintances. If you cannot help me out at this time, I want to thank you for any support of any sort you’ve been able to provide in the past; if you CAN help out, rest assured: my thanks knows no bounds!
