Jonathan Ernst
Donation protected
On behalf of the Reuters News Guild, we are raising money for veteran photojournalist Jonathan Ernst, who was unjustly fired for diligently doing his job during an assignment at the White House. Jonathan, who has worked for Reuters for nearly two decades both as a freelance and staff photographer, was arbitrarily fired without "just cause" and denied severance pay, in gross violation of our Collective Bargaining Agreement. He is now without a paycheck and without health benefits.
Jonathan has a family, including a young son. His Guild colleagues are demanding that the company reinstate Jonathan, but we would like to help him financially until this matter is resolved. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. All donations raised are going directly to Jonathan.
In a note to the Reuters Guild, Jonathan expressed his immense gratitude, love and support shown over the past week. "Your calls, texts and emails have truly blown Emily and me away. I’ve been telling people that, besides the getting fired part, it’s been a really beautiful experience – kind of like being invited to my own funeral and learning that I’ve had a good life with wonderfully loving friends, much more so than I ever imagined. It is astonishing."
