For those who knew Jonathan Crabtree, you knew someone who brought laughter, loyalty, and heart into every room he walked into. Jonathan wasn’t just a mate — he was family to so many of us. He had a way of making people feel welcome, supported, and never alone, no matter what they were going through.
Jonathan’s life and tragic loss story became deeply connected to the his mother, Maree Crabtree who was accused of attempted murder, fraud and then the murder of Jonathan Crabtree. What followed was years of heartbreak, trauma, court proceedings, media attention, and unimaginable grief for the myself, Chris and jonathans family and everyone close to Jonathan . Watching Jonathan carry that pain while still trying to stay strong for the people around him is something I’ll never forget.
On May 12th 2026 - the court has declared a non guilty verdict- meaning she has been aquited of all charges (let off) and she is free to walk.
This was not the verdict we all wanted. We all wanted justice for jonathan but the Justice system is what it is !
As one of Jonathan’s best friends, I saw firsthand how deeply everything affected him. And I’m sure a lot of others did too - and Despite the weight he carried, he still showed up for his mates, still made people laugh, and still gave support . That’s the kind of person Jonathan was — selfless, loyal, and full of love for the people around him.
Now, after everything we have gone through over the last 9 years of the trials, court proceedings ect , we want to make sure Jonathan receives the send off he truly deserves now that the case is over. This fundraiser is being created so his friends and loved ones can come together to honour his life properly, celebrate the memories he gave us, and support the people and places that meant something to him.
Part of the funds raised will also go toward supporting Helensvale Hornets, a community connected to Jonathan and many of the friendships and memories shared throughout his life.
Part of the funds raised will also go towards paying for flights and accomodation for mark crabtree and his family to be able to attend this send off for Jonathan.
Every donation, share, and message of support means more than words can explain. Thank you for helping us honour Jonathan’s memory and stand beside the people who loved him through this incredibly painful time.
