Honoring Jonathan, Alyssa, & Baby Asher Shaheen

Donation protected
Jonathan and Alyssa experienced something no parent should ever have to experience: the loss of their beloved son. Yet, despite this hard reality, it is my hope and prayer that God would be glorified through their story and this gofundme in 2 ways:
1) Through the honoring of Asher's life by hearing his precious story; a story that a good, good God wrote.
2) Through the continual outpouring of love and support by blessing and relieving some of Jonathan and Alyssa's financial burdens.

Celebrating The Life of Asher Addai Shaheen

“Our journey started October 16th with the surprise of our life: we were pregnant! Two pregnancy tests later it was confirmed that we were with child; a little miracle baby! We were shocked, nervous, but SO excited that God gifted us with this little peanut. For the next 5 months, we began dreaming and planning for our future growing family.  Everything was going according to plan. We loved going to our ultrasounds and seeing how active and wiggly our baby was.  There were no signs that anything was wrong with Baby; our pregnancy was going smoothly.

The evening of February 2nd, everything changed. Out of nowhere I began having sharp pains in my lower abdomen. At first I just thought it was Baby elbowing me, or positioned strangely in my body,  but the pain continued to get worse. I went to the bathroom and quickly found out something wasn’t right. Jonathan grabbed all of our things and we rushed off to the ER.

As we were checked in, we saw God’s hand of faithfulness already on us. At 19 weeks and 6 days, we were fortunate to be admitted to the Labor and Delivery department rather than the ER. Our first doctor came in and performed an ultrasound. Baby was still alive and the heart was still beating.  But our doctor said that my water broke and the chances of a viable pregnancy were slim. He began asking us questions on how we wanted to proceed with our pregnancy. We both agreed that we wanted to wait until morning before making any decisions.  At this point, we began reaching out to our family and church friends, asking for prayers and believing for a miracle.  At 5am the next morning, the doctor came in again and performed another ultrasound.  Baby’s heart was still beating…but it was very faint and had slowed down a lot…Again they asked us how we wanted to proceed and we said, we still want to wait.  Our next check in was scheduled for 9:30am, but due to the high number of families coming in with the same emergency, our appointment was pushed further and further back. Finally around 12:30pm, a nurse came in and performed an ultrasound.  She was so kind and tried blaming herself when she couldn’t find the heartbeat…”I must not be doing this right…we will have the doctor come in and double check.” The doctor came in and couldn’t find a heartbeat.  We asked for another doctor to confirm as well…he couldn’t find the heartbeat either. At this point, they gave us time to grieve and come up with a plan on how we wanted to move forward. We both agreed and wanted to be able to hold our baby, so we decided induce labor. At 6:26pm on February 3rd, our beautiful boy, Asher Addai Shaheen, entered this world.  He was so perfect and everything we dreamed of and more.

Through this whole journey, God never left our side.  We are saddened that we didn't get to take Asher home, but God WAS and IS faithful and good.  We felt God's hand and saw him moving even within the pain.  He surrounded us with the most unbelievable support and loved ones during this time. And we are in awe and so grateful for everyones love, comfort, words, encouragement, stories and prayers in this season.  THANK YOU. To everyone who has reached out to us, prayed with us, sent us meals, mailed us flowers, gave us hugs, cried with us, gave money, visited us, helped with Asher’s memorial, gave gifts, sent messages…we are SO beyond thankful and blessed by each of you! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Words will never adequately describe how much everyones support has meant to us.  We love each and every one of you and are grateful to be able to share our story with you all.”

Blessing Jonathan & Alyssa

As Jonathan and Alyssa continue to trust God moving forward, we are committed to loving them along the way. One practical way we want to do this right now, is by blessing them financially. With fast approaching medical bill due dates, and their much needed time off work, we have a great opportunity to honor Jonathan, Alyssa, and Asher with our selfless monetary giving. Please take time to think through and pray about helping bless the Shaheen family this way.

Thank You

Thank you for taking the time to hear Asher's story. And thank you for loving my sister and brother-in-law so well thus far. I'm so humbled by the ways I've seen God work through so many of you, and I'm already praising Him for His future grace.

"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen."
Ephesians 3:20-21

Daniel
