Jon Wright Memorial & Scholarship Fund
Jon Wright grew up with his twin brother Michael by his side and they took care of each other from birth. They faced all of life's experiences together, especially the many struggles and heartaches. When Michael died 6 years ago, Jon's heart was broken and he lived with a pain so great it was difficult to keep at bay. Jon died on May 22, 2020 from complications of that broken heart.
Despite his heartaches, Jon was a devoted friend and father. To know Jon is to know you've always got someone who has your back. Jon was your ride-or-die friend. Did you need your car repaired? Jon had a friend who could help you and give you a great and honest deal. Did you need a place to stay on your trip to San Francisco? Jon arranged for his friend with extra hotel points to get you a fancy place to stay. Needed your house painted? He hooked you up with a painter he knew at an unbelievable price. Needed tickets for your kids to the ACC game? Jon had a friend who could help you with that too.
Jon loved his family fiercely and many of you witnessed that intense love on the sports fields and courts where his boys, Graham and Anderson, played. You could hear him screaming from the sideline a mile away (we apologize to the refs and coaches). He was so proud of his two boys, and he passed on his quick wit and ribbing skills to them both. At home when the boys were growing up, Jon was always guilty of delaying bath time by starting a wrestling or tickling match.
Jon was the number one UNC Tar Heel fan and Carolina Panther fan and followed both teams intently. He also was passionate about the outdoors, having grown up on the family farm of a dear friend. This led to a life long love of hunting, fishing, and camping. He spent many days and nights on his hunting land, camped out with dear friends who were family to him. Jon also loved classic cars and mechanics and spending hours (and hours and hours...) fixing them up in the his dear friend's workshop.
Jon was also determined to provide his boys with an education. You can honor Jon and support his legacy of helping others by contributing to a college fund for his boys, Graham (16) and Anderson (13).
