Jon Waide Memorial Fund

Dear Family and Friends,
Services for Jon will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif., with a memorial reception immediately following at March Field Air Museum.
On Monday, we all received sad news from Darren that one of our own, Security Manager Jon Waide, lost his short battle with brain cancer. This unexpected loss is felt by everyone who was lucky enough to have met Jon and call him a friend and co-worker. The services for Jon will be held at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego at a date still to be determined.
This Gofundme page has been set up to raise funds to support his family during this difficult time. He is survived by his wife Pamela, his two daughters, and two stepsons.
Jon had been with us since June, 2015 and was well respected by everyone he met. While at Metrollink he performed outreach training for first law enforcement, coroners and other first responders. He was also an instructor at the California Coroner Training Center and was a certified active shooter instructor. Many of the railroad images displayed at our Metrolink facilities were taken by Jon.
He served his country in the United States Air Force for more than five years as a decorated Staff Sergeant and Security Supervisor and was stationed for 2 1/2 years in Incirlik, Turkey. Jon was assigned duties safeguarding nuclear weapons storage areas and delivery systems in the US and overseas as a Fire Team Leader, Convoy Commander, and Master Surveillance Control Facility Operator.
During his 20-year civilian law enforcement career for the Tempe Police Department, he performed duties as a Field Training Officer, Special Investigations Bureau Gang Unit Detective, Crime Prevention Unit Sergeant, Attacking Crime Trends In Our Neighborhood (A.C.T.I.O.N.) Team Sergeant, Field Training Sergeant, and Patrol Division Senior Sergeant.
Following his retirement from the Tempe Police Department, Jon was appointed Law Enforcement Liaison for the Federal Railroad Administration. He trained first responders throughout the Western US to respond to railroad-related incidents/crimes and officer safety.
Jon worked at the Grand Canyon Railway as the Environmental Manager before joining us here at Metrolink.
He was active for many years in the rail safety education organization, Operation Lifesaver, serving as a Certified Operation Lifesaver trainer.
Jon was an avid rail enthusiast and photographer.
Thank you all for any donation in honor of Jon Waide. The entire family appreciates your thoughtfulness and generosity. Pam Waide will be the beneficiary of this fundraiser.
