Some of us know Jon, and Jon has been a good friend to some of you. While he has not really been shy is sharing his condition with many of us here at Windy City Poker, he has never asked for anything from any of us. There are a couple of us that know more of what has been going on with him, than most, and that is why I am doing this. He needs our help, and I don’t want to lose a friend like him if it can at all be avoided.
Without Jon we would not have the community of friends we have come to know. The first events for Windy City Poker were for Jon’s American Legion…he helped get the events where they are today…it is time to return the favor and I am hoping you reading this can help.
What we do know for sure is that Jon has several ailments that have made him permanently disabled. He has COPD, Emphysema, Chronic Pneumonia, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, Neuropathy, and now they think he has Congestive Heart Failure, however he has two cardiologists disagreeing on that one. He has been encouraged to go to the Mayo Clinic for a complete rework by his primary Physician and his Pulmonologist. And this is where we ALL come in. With all the mounting bills and financial troubles he is not able to afford the tests or needed treatment that can hopefully save his life
The estimated cost for him to go will be about $5000.00 per month while he is in Rochester Mn. Most of that is hotel costs, which will be about an average of $130.00 per night that he is there. The goal is, for him to be able to go up and stay there as long as is required for them to do the full testing. Jon is not able to drive himself, due to the fact that he is having issues with constant headaches, and frequent dizziness. So, his wife will be doing most of the driving for him, but he may need to find alternatives if needed and they could increase the cost of his traveling up there.
I am counting on the poker community at the events to come together to help Jon. But they cant do it alone…we need help from everyone…any funds beyond the $5,000 raised will be held for future use for additional treatment or any medicine he would need. Since his medications could run into large amounts depending on what they find.
And please, keep in mind if you talk to him, he does not want anyone’s sympathy, he has accepted his condition, and sadly he has accepted the fact that his condition may be terminal. But I do not want to see him give up without fighting, and going to the Mayo Clinic may just be the thing he needs to help him fight.
