R.I.P. Jon Overgaauw/Lil Jon Flip

Donation protected

Jon Overgaauw was only 31 years old and spent Mother's Day weekend with his mom at his sister's home in Independence, California on the 395 Hwy. It was his nephews 1st birthday on Monday the 15th. They planned to return to Bellflower the next day, Tuesday afternoon, but Jon, brother-in-law Neil, nephew Daniel, and family friend Garry, decided to get up at 4am and go fishing one more time before Garry and Jon would leave for home. The Owens River has lots of water in it from the snow melt in the High Sierras and was deep and running fast. They caught nothing that morning in the Lake and decided to try the river. At 9am everyone decided to pack it up and head back, but Jon wanted to give it a few more tries. When the others returned from the car about 200 yards away they couldn't find Jon. They split up, and searched up and down the river thinking he might have moved to a different spot. About 11am seach-and-rescue came and after closing a spill way up stream to lower the river they found that Jon had drown. No one knows how he could have fallen in. The spot he was fishing from seemed safe enough but the strong undercurrent pulled him down into a mangle of tree branches underwater.
Needless to say his mother, sister and her husband, nephew and friend Garry are devastated and pretty much the entire family is still in shock. This is such a sudden and unexpected tragic thing that happened. It wasn't until the next weekend that his body was released from autopsy and transported back to Bellflower, Nobody worked or slept hardly for another week as preparations were made for his funeral before Labor Day weekend began. Most of the family is still in a daze. Jon was a stuntman and actor. He lived day to day like all the rest of us, and most of his savings were in his house he purchased in 2014. We are trying desperately to cover mortuary, cemetery, and burial costs. We don't know if we can save his house. We are humbly asking for help.
Any small donation to our cause will be deeply appreciated.
On 5/16/17 family, friends and the world lost a champion.  Jon was a 'little person' who defeated the odds and came out on top. Jon was a true light to all. He lived life to the fullest, brought smiles wherever he went and became a friend to everyone he met. He had a heart of courage, love, kindness, and joy! His love for life is an inspiration and it's so hard to believe that he is gone.
