Jon, Cerith & Jonathan: Cycling to Brighton for Parkinson’s
Ok, so this is how it happened.
A chat at Christmas, maybe after a couple of drinks, and Jon and Hywel decide to do the London to Brighton cycle ride.
Jon mentions it to Jonathan at work, and Jonathan signs up too. Then, unfortunately Hywel can’t make it - but fear not! In steps Cerith.
So, here we are: Jon & Cerith Manel and Jonathan Hill are cycling the 54 miles from Clapham Junction to the beach in Brighton on 14 September 2025.
It’s me - Jon - who is writing this. I like cycling but 54 miles? Seriously? What was I thinking? Or not thinking… It’s totally out of my comfort zone. But luckily Jonathan has done it before and Cerith can probably do this without a single training session!
And most importantly of all, it’s worth it because we are trying to raise as much money as possible for an exceedingly good and important cause. We probably all know someone who has or has had Parkinson’s. My dad had it. For around ten years - probably more. It’s cruel and brutal. And, I’m afraid, in the end, in my dad’s case, miserable. It also ain’t great for the family member who becomes the carer.
And here’s a fact I didn’t know: Every hour, two more people are diagnosed.
A fact that I did know: There’s no cure.
Not yet.
And that what makes doing something crazy like cycling 54 miles worth it. If there is any chance that raising money will help find a cure, maybe we’d even cycle all the way back again too. Actually - hang on - let’s be realistic here but you know what I’m saying. It’s an important cause, so if you can spare a few pennies in return for us 3 daft people cycling more than 150 miles between us, we’d be very grateful.
Thank you!
