Hello friends (old and new). Jolo is a 4year old black labrador. He has an amazing job as a Diabetic Alert Service Dog. He keeps his human, Monique, alive and well by sniffing out blood glucose changes and alerting her. This allows Monique to treat faster and prevent future complications. Jolo is Monique's successor as her first D.A.D (Diabetic Alert Dog) Waimea unfortunately passed early at the age of 7 due to a cancerous tumor.
On Tuesday October 17th, 2023, Jolo was attacked by a pit bull during our evening walk. We live in the Downtown Los Angeles area and were told by police that there seems to be an issue with the unhoused community breeding pit bulls in the area. This particular dog did belong to the unhoused community and unfortunately his owner grabbed him and ran off. We are working with Animal Control to hold this man responsible as he is frequently seen in our area.
Jolo's injuries were quite traumatic. He had a large laceration on his right front leg and chest. Luckily no vital organs or arteries were damaged. Jolo received a surgery to close his wound and is expected to heal quite nicely.
As many are aware, pet insurance is not always the best. Even with the top plan a very small portion of Jolo's bill will be covered. If you could please donate to help Monique cover the remaining portion we would greatly appreciate it. Jolo is literally a life saver and we would do absolutely anything to save his life in return.
We are beyond blessed that this incident was not much worse and are grateful to continue to spoil and love on this angel of a dog. We will be working hard to make sure Jolo is not psychologically damaged by this and will continue to be able to work.
Many people have inquired about sending Jolo a gift or treat so here's his wishlist. Jolo's Recovery Wish List
