Jolie Lynn Voight

On Friday, Dec. 29th around 6:20 pm my niece and goddaughter Jolie (JoJo) climbed up onto the kitchen counter to try and blow out a candle her mom (Lindsay) lit earlier that night. Lindsay was not in the room when she heard a blood curdling scream coming from the kitchen. When Lindsay came running JoJo's hair was up in flames. JoJo was in shock not moving with her head hanging down as Lindsay put out the flames with her hands and a sock. After traveling to the ER, Mitchell County Regional Health Center of Osage advised them to take Jo to the Pediatric Burn Center in Iowa City. There JoJo, Lindsay and Dave stayed for 4 days trying to get the swelling down in her eyes and prevent any infection from spreading. Jolie's burn consists of a deep full thickness burn, also known as 3rd degree burn, and partial thickness also known as 2nd degree burn! The portion of her forehead that sustained 3rd degree burn will need skin grafting. The surgery is tentatively scheduled for Friday , Jan 6th in Iowa City. The skin grafting will speed up healing and hopefully reduce scaring! Little miss Jolie is in for a long recovery filled with lots of follow up trips over the next several months to the burn center. With all the medical expenses for both 2017 and 2018 the Wegner family is setting up this page to help Dave and Lindsay with all the medical costs from this accident. At this time, Jolie cannot go to daycare due to the risk of infection. JoJo is a fighter and won't let this get her down. Thanks everyone for the prayers! Advice to all parents from mama Lindsay - do not burn candles around your little humans... Accidents happen so fast! Thanks to everyone thinking of JoJo in this difficult time. God Bless and Happy New Year.
