Jolene Thomson's Medical Fund

Jolene Thomson is one of the most giving people I've ever met. Mostly from behind the scenes, as she'd rather keep the focus on others.

If you've ever been to a Portland Thorns match, and especially if you're a member of the Rose City Riveters or Timbers Army you probably know Jolene or her and her husband Michael's delightful 6-year-old daughter Erin, who really loves her Thorns and Timbers and is quite happy to tell you so!

Jolene is on the Steering Committee of the Rose City Riveters, in charge of Communications (social media, original website and other written content, etc) and she is a long-term 107ist member.

She does all this from a distance, as she and her family live in Albany and commute to Thorns (and a few Timbers) matches.

True to her no-nonsense form, when Jolene found out she had cancer last summer she didn't make a big deal of it. She just kept working,  volunteering, and raising her family while they did more tests.

She had surgery in October of 2017, and started chemotherapy immediately after. She continues to receive chemo treatments, and her doctors have radiation therapy and endocrine therapy planned for the future. Jolene, Michael, and Erin are hopeful and expectant of a full & cancer-free recovery at the end of all the pain and challenge.

While Jolene has insurance, for which she is grateful, it is a high deductible plan that has chosen not to participate in covering all aspects of her tests and treatment. At the same time, ongoing treatment has necessitated time off from work. In 2018, they anticipate still having approximately $15,000 in medical debt alone, even after the payments that have already been made for 2017.

She is receiving her treatment at Samaritan Pastega Regional Cancer Center in Corvallis.

I had to push Jolene really hard to get her permission to share the needs and ask others to join me in helping them with some of their bills.  They are an amazing family, and a very important part of the Riveters and Timbers Army world.

I'm asking you to consider joining me in doing what you can to help Jolene financially, as well as by letting others know that they can help!

$7,500 won't cover all their long-term expenses by any means, but it will definitely make a big difference. And it will also demonstrate that they are loved by their friends and family!

Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks so much!
