"But Mum, will I ink?"
That's Jojo’s way of telling me he'll be a bit nervous when he dives with sharks at Skegness Aquarium in a couple of weeks.
Jojo is 11, we adopted him as a baby and from the very start he would love spotting dolphins and sharks in books.
He has Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, a learning disability and is autistic. At 6 years old he had to go in for some major bowel surgery. When asked what he wanted to do before going into hospital, he surprised us all and said "I want to save the oceans".
He got really poorly during his time in hospital and had to go down for many emergency surgeries, often coming round, taking his dummy out and asking "did I save the ocean yet?".
During that hospital stay he ended up having his large bowel removed and now has an ileostomy. He also didn't eat for 3 years and was completely peg fed, but throughout it all, he has done sponsored litter picks, swims, sold cakes and cards to raise money for various ocean charities. His total so far is over £4,000 and his dream is to be a scuba diver.
Jojo faces many challenges every day. He was exposed to huge trauma and drugs and alcohol in utero which has affected how his brain is wired, but he is the most compassionate, kind, brave boy I know who just wants to make a difference to his beloved oceans and grow up to be a scuba diver. Please give generously if you can
