After years of applying for writing residencies, I finally got accepted to one... in ICELAND. I'm honored and giddy. The only issue is that the residency is not funded and even though I'll be lodged at a great discount, Iceland is not cheap. For decades my friends and framily have been telling me I need to get better at asking for help. I trudged my bullhead along, my fingers in my ears. But this month in Iceland could be the time I need to finally finish this %$#@& book in a neutral space in the middle of nowhere (where my past trauma won't have to meet up with my current existence). So, this is me humbly asking for your help. The residency "lodging and linens" costs a couple of grand. I'll need to fly to Iceland and take a four-hour bus up to Skagaströnd. And I'll need to eat (I hear this might be the most expensive part even though I plan to pack a bunch of ramens and do all my own cooking). I also plan to spend a few days backpacking and hosteling to face my fears of volcanoes and glaciers. All couch and center car console change is GREATLY appreciated. In exchange, I promise to dig deep, write hard, and take a TON of photos. Thanks in advance for your help.
