Join Yuli's Fight Against Tethered Cord

Hi, my name is Yuli, and I’m an elementary teacher in the public school system who’s passionate about helping my students and supporting my community. I’m reaching out to ask for your help as I prepare for an important surgery this summer.

I was born with spina bifida, and I’m now facing worsening symptoms from tethered cord syndrome — a chronic and often painful condition. Tethered cord occurs when spinal cord tissue is abnormally attached, restricting movement of the spinal cord. Over time, this can cause nerve damage, severe pain, weakness, headaches, and other debilitating symptoms that make daily life incredibly difficult.

For me, this condition affects my left leg and foot, causes constant discomfort, and has steadily impacted my overall health. Without surgery, these symptoms will only worsen.

Because I’ll need this surgery over the summer to allow time for recovery, I won’t be able to work during those months. I’m asking for support not only to help cover my medical expenses but also to assist with living costs during this time. My goal is to heal and return to the classroom, fully recovered, for the 2025-2026 school year.

Hola, mi nombre es Yuli y soy maestra de primaria en el sistema escolar público. Me encanta ayudar a mis estudiantes y apoyar a mi comunidad. Hoy recurro a ustedes para pedir ayuda mientras me preparo para una cirugía importante este verano.

Nací con espina bífida y actualmente enfrento síntomas cada vez más graves debido al síndrome de médula anclada, una condición crónica que puede ser muy difícil de sobrellevar. Este trastorno ocurre cuando el tejido de la médula espinal está anclado de forma anormal, lo que restringe su movimiento. Con el tiempo, esto puede dañar los nervios y provocar un dolor intenso, debilidad, dolores de cabeza y otros síntomas debilitantes que dificultan mucho la vida diaria.

En mi caso, esta condición afecta mi pierna y pie izquierdos, me causa dolor constante y ha deteriorado considerablemente mi salud en general. Sin cirugía, estos síntomas solo empeorarán.

Tendré que someterme a esta cirugía durante el verano para darme tiempo suficiente para recuperarme. Eso significa que no podré trabajar durante esos meses, por lo que pido su apoyo para ayudarme no solo a cubrir los gastos médicos, sino también para afrontar mis gastos de vida durante mi recuperación. Mi mayor deseo es sanar y poder regresar al aula, recuperada por completo, para el ciclo escolar 2025-2026.
