Greetings,
My name is Vaughn McEnough Jr and I currently reside in New Jersey undertaking my studies to become a medical doctor. My heart breaks as I watch the devastation that Hurricane Melissa has left across Jamaica. There are many Parishes where families are standing in the wreckage of their homes unsure of what tomorrow will bring. Mothers and fathers are struggling to feed their children, to find clean water; to simply survive.
Farmers have seen their lands and crops completely destroyed. What was once fertile and full of life is now covered in mud and loss! Jamaica, a place known for its warmth, its strength, its resilience, is now in desperate need of help.
As a proud product of Jamaica from the St. Ann Parish, this moment hits me deeply! I would be remiss if I didn’t give back to the island that shaped my childhood, my primary education, and my heart. Jamaica not only taught me how to stand tall through struggles, but how to hold the faith when the storm rages, and to care for one another as family.
Now more than ever, our people need that same love and unity poured back into them. That’s why I decided to launch this GoFundMe page to help those that were hit the hardest by Hurricane Melissa. Every single donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward providing food, clean water, and clothing for families who have lost literally everything.
Soon I’ll be joining some of my childhood friends on the island who have already been making care packages and playing their part in making a tremendous difference in the lives of others. I plan to buy and gather as many essential items as I can, bring them down with me and join in on the incredible efforts already happening across the island.
For me, this isn’t just about sending help, it’s about showing up! Even if you can’t give financially, please share the link. Your willingness and compassion can reach someone who can.
Jamaica has endured many storms before. But this time, it’s our turn to be the calm after the storm. Help me in showing that no hurricane is stronger than the love of our people. That our unity, faith, and compassion can rebuild what the winds have torn apart.
Please help us rebuild hope for Jamaica. Together, we shall rise again! Remember, LOVE always rises higher than the floodwaters!
With a Heart Full of Gratitude,
Vaughn
