Starting this GoFundMe is probably the most challenging thing I’ve ever had to do. It’s hard to ask for money period but more so during difficult economic times.

I’m doing this on behalf of my son-in-law Ivan Ramirez and his family. Their 12-year-old daughter Valentina was recently diagnosed with T-cell leukemia. She also has a mass encasing her aortic arch. Her treatments have just begun, and we don't know how long she will be hospitalized (could be months); however, the treatment plan in place at this time will be approximately two years.

Ivan is a handyman by trade and cannot take many jobs because Val wants him to be with her at the hospital. His wife, Dana, is a full-time student working on her Master’s Degree. He is facing extreme emotional and financial pressure to provide for his family.

This family is the most successful blended family I have ever known. Both parents are devoted to and love each girl unconditionally. The two older girls (Val and Janae) are best friends. The two younger ones get along beautifully and have a fun relationship--even with sharing a bedroom).

Ivan gives his full self as a father to all four girls. He attends every event any of them are a part of—including tap and choir recitals! Val and Janae love basketball with all their hearts, and Ivan devotes an extraordinary amount of time working with them, taking them to practice and watching games. He fully engages in making all family activities memorable and fun.
