Last month, we received heartbreaking news.

My sweet wife, Valene Stone has been diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer.

This diagnosis came as a shock, and since then, everything has moved incredibly fast — from doctors’ visits to immediate treatment plans and life-changing decisions that needed to be made quickly.

One of the first things we were advised to do before beginning treatment was to explore fertility preservation.

Cancer treatments can severely impact the ability to have children, and as Val and I have always dreamed of building a family together.

So we began fertility treatment right away to freeze her eggs — a process that adds additional urgency, emotion, and financial burden on top of everything else.

This journey has been especially tender and emotional for us because our first attempt at starting our family ended in deep sorrow.

In 2024 we lost our sweet son, Ronin, at 26 weeks.

That loss left an ache in our hearts that we carry every day and it’s part of what fuels our determination to keep hoping and trying for a future where we can welcome a child into our lives.

The possibility of growing our family one day is a hope we continue to hold close, even amid these incredibly difficult circumstances.

As you can imagine, the costs associated with both cancer treatment and fertility preservation are overwhelming. Between medical bills, time away from work, and the general upheaval this brings to our lives, we are doing everything we can to stay strong and support each other through this.

We know we can’t do it alone.

Valene has spent the past decade as a passionate, dedicated teacher — someone who has poured her heart into helping children learn, grow, and thrive. Her impact on her students and their families is something we are deeply proud of.
