About WanYing
My name is WanYing Morningstar. I’m asking for your help to get to the Paraclimbing World Series 2026. I am 17 years old and have been rock climbing since I was 9.
I was born with amniotic banding syndrome, which means I’ve been missing several fingers since birth. When I was adopted at 2, I was able to have several surgeries in the U.S. to give me more mobility in my hands. There are very few things I can’t do, but missing fingers is a disadvantage in climbing. This year, I qualified for the U.S. Paraclimbing Team by taking first place in my category at February’s Paraclimbing National competition.
I love the problem-solving of climbing and the supportive, friendly community. I chose to try paraclimbing this year to explore new places and compete at a new level with this new opportunity. It is inspiring to watch people exceed the expectations others have for them and to support each other in a high level of competition; I am honored to be a part of the U.S. National Team.
I’m hoping to raise money to compete on the world paraclimbing stage in France, South Korea, and Japan.
The Paraclimbing World Series is an opportunity for me to challenge myself, support my team, and explore the world while representing Team U.S.A. There are very few youth in paraclimbing, and I hope that climbing as a young member of the U.S. National Team will inspire and encourage more young people that climbing is accessible to everybody and a place where they can belong.
