Hello Everyone, my name is Jay Cisneros and I am deeply concerned with our school district, CCISD. We’ve been hearing plenty of noise for the past 5 years and have started to see some of the consequences unfold over the past 2 years. While some were silenced, others took a stand and have fought the good fight. But it seems it was not enough. And now, with the new interim superintendent, the future seems clear. We are in deep, deep financial trouble and our teachers, students, paras, and maintenance staff are in for a brutal next couple of months.
Here are a few key points:
• CCISD is in debt — $9.6 million
• No one is giving us money
• Downsize (main ticket) Massive layoffs to come.
• Junior High Sports and Non-Varsity sports would be non-existent.
• $1.4 million loan from Zavala County Bank to meet April & May payroll.
• Still need June, July & August payroll‼️
• CCISD has many outstanding debts
• Raise school taxes
• Propose a VATRE Election ️ come Nov ‘26
WHAT is a VATRE ELECTION: A voter-approval tax rate election (VATRE) is a special election that allows school districts in Texas to seek voter approval to ⬆️ increase their maintenance and operations (M&O) tax rate above the state-mandated threshold. This will affect your property taxes!
• Lastly, possible full district CLOSURE. If not, half. Consolidation with Carrizo Springs.
Unbelievable, but let’s not talk about how we got here. I’m sure the community is tired of it. Let’s talk about how we somehow get out of here. Let’s talk about how this community can come together and try to save our district, our teachers, our students, and for some, our very own kids.
I believe the new superintendent is as honest as they come and wants to help us. But he also said he’s never seen anything like this in his 30+ years of working with school districts.
I don’t get involved in politics and I don’t care about money. I do what I need to do to keep my businesses and family afloat.
So here is my proposal to help our district that is in dire need of help. I ask all community members and businesses to donate anything you can to help save our school district. Every single dollar you see on this account will be handed over to the superintendent and president as a donation to help save our school district from closure. I do this with all integrity and hope our superintendent confirms to the public the exact amount that was handed over as I am able to put their bank account information once given to me. 3% and change is taken in fees but all the rest. I’m only here to help. Thank you all!
