On September 27th, single mother Marissa Banach and her two young kids were rescued from the flooding waters of Hurricane Helene from a broken window in their home.
At 10:30 in the morning, she watched the bottom floor of their home rush with water. This house was Marissa's great grandparents home and served as a reprieve for their small family. By 11:05 her brave neighbors were able to push through the rising water in a small kayak and rescue them out of a broken window of family home. While their family is safe, their only home has been destroyed. Money donated to Marissa will be used to secure permanent housing and essentials for herself and the children.
Marissa was interviewed by The Washington Post 3 days after the flood (also 3 days without a shower): https://www.instagram.com/reel/DAgfxopOZcP/?igsh=MW1qdjh5cDJraGZtMQ%3D%3D
