Hello, my name is Sha Fahad. I grew up in Kurnool, Andhra-Pradesh, India, and now I live in the U.S. I am working on organizing this fund to help the struggling families in my hometown, Kurnool, due to the drastic spread of the Coronavirus. From my recent visit to the city, I noticed how badly the situation has become. With your generosity and help, I am hoping to positively impact the lives of these families and their kids with the start of 2022. Please read the details below explaining the current situation in the city and the goals aimed from this fund.

Hundreds of families have been badly impacted in Kurnool in the past year. With few to no work opportunities, these families have been struggling with no access to medical/sanitary supplies. Food supplies have also been extremely limited and only dependent upon the number of family members, which is still not enough to feed the entire family. Additionally, Kids have limited access to supplies needed to fulfill their educational needs. Also, we’re planning to establish a skill development plan to equip people with the required skills to meet the latest demand in the market to sustain their livelihood.

Kurnool’s Current Situation:

• With Kurnool’s current population of 484,327 (Population Density – 6,100/km2), about 2/3rd (66% - 68%) are coolies

• Each family’s income is less than $100/month – Agricultural laborers are considered with the lowest income amongst all, which is the majority of families in Kurnool

• Many families are dependent on daily wages, which is not enough to meet their daily needs

• Thousands of people have lost their jobs in the city due to the spread of the coronavirus and extended lockdowns

• Families have no access to medical/Sanitary supplies – Made the spread of the coronavirus easier with a higher number of sicknesses and death rates

• Food supplies are extremely limited – Food is dependent on the number of family members, which is not enough to feed everyone and does not last long

• School supplies are also limited and hard to afford – These are necessary to fulfill the educational needs of the children

 

Fund’s Focus & Goal:

With the help of a few community members, we were able to provide ration kits to families in need (Please refer to the 2nd attached video). Those kits were delivered directly to the families’ homes. However, it was a very small-scale fund. This time we have decided to help more families as the situation has worsened drastically.

 

We’re planning to focus on the families who have:

• Lost the critical family member/primary source of income – Husband/Father/Guardian

• Families that do not get any help from the Government – No access to the white ration card

• Meager income

 

Our goal is to:

• Expand the ration kits by adding nutritious food (For kids) and other food supplies to feed the entire family for an extended period. Education & sanitary supplies will also be added. Each kit is estimated to cost around $136. This can help provide and feed a family for approximately three months

• Distribute a minimum of 200 kits which will total more than $27,000

 

As we understand that we cannot help every impacted family, our goal is to ensure at least some people can sleep in peace, knowing that when they wake up the next day, they do not have to worry about feeding their family members.

100% of the funds raised here will be used towards food/sanitary/school supplies (I will cover the GoFundMe fees and all operational costs).
