Join Us in Uplifting Heather Through Surgery and Recovery

Hello friends and family. Resulting from a misdiagnosed injury almost a decade ago, a fractured vertebrae, my awesome, talented, and Wicked Smaht wife, Heather Welch, has been living a life of debilitating pain for nearly the last 5 years.

What started as a sore back has mushroomed into debilitating pain and nerve spasms, severely limiting Heather’s ability to do most daily activities. She spends most of her time in bed with heat. When she stands, she needs a cane, and even then can only walk a handful of steps. Due to the pain medications she has been prescribed, she is unable to drive and has essentially been unable to leave the house unassisted in months. Her ability to work has been significantly affected, as the pain and medication have taken her ability to commute to a job, or even work from home for more than a few minutes at a time.

Over the last year, Heather has been consulting a surgeon who has prescribed multiple pain control trials, none of which have been successful. The decision has finally been made to move forward with the surgical option.

In late October, Heather will have an operation. For the nerds out there: “ALIF/PLIF lumbar spine fusion surgery.” She will be in the hospital for 3-5 days, and then healing and recovering for up to 18 months.

The financial burden of this surgery, combined with Heather’s inability to work, has significantly affected our household, which is why we are reaching out today.

Heather is the smartest person I know. She is a scholar, a charismatic teacher, a keen problem solver, and a brilliant web developer. I have never seen her as happy as when she is kicking ass at one of her passions. But this situation has derailed her. It has derailed our entire family.

We hope that this surgery will restore the quality of life that Heather is yearning for. Any help you can provide as we work through this trial will be appreciated.
