My name is Robert M. Barsamian.

A group of college friends and I will be raising money for our friend, Albert Valentine.

Albert is 65 years old. He was born in Banjul, The Gambia. He went to Saint Augustine High School in Banjul. His father was a Mulatto, and his mother was from Angola. He came to Elmira in 1979. My college roommate, Bye Wadda, from The Gambia, arranged and facilitated the process to get him to Elmira College. After graduation, he went back to Gambia and worked in the insurance industry. He came back to the US in 1994 and settled around the Boston area. He then worked in accounting and finance. He now lives in Gardner, Mass, with his wife and son. Albert has two kids, Felix and Terrence.

Albert has been ill for over a year now. Albert has been diagnosed with a rare bladder cancer called urachal cancer in July 2023. He has been out of work for over 12 months and his employment was terminated two months ago. He has been receiving chemotherapy treatment every two weeks and is going for his 26th chemotherapy treatment next Monday. It’s been a long and challenging journey. He was admitted to the hospital for 7 weeks in June due to some infection from the nephrostomy tubes attached to his kidneys. Fortunately, he had 12 doctors overseeing his ailment and they were able to figure it out, thankfully. His doctor has now switched the treatment regimen as the previous one wasn’t that effective. In a nutshell, that’s where he is in terms of treatment today. He is taking 5 different medications! It’s been a rough and challenging ride for Albert and his family, but they will continue to thrive just by the grace of God with good family and friends. Thanks
