“October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As most of you know, my sister Melanie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022. She chose to be private about her diagnosis because she did not want her patients to worry about her as she continued to work through her treatment.

My sister has worked up to 3 jobs throughout her treatment to try and stay on top of the medical bills and expenses insurance will not cover. She has continuous follow-ups, scans, chemo medications, and now she is facing another surgery this month. She has racked up over $30,000 so far in the cost of her treatment after insurance has paid. Each year she starts with a high deductible before insurance will pay anything.

Melanie has worked selflessly in home health as a Registered Nurse for 25+ years. She has taken patients under her wing like family, going above and beyond her assigned job duties. She is her only source of income. She’s worked more than 1 job most of her adult life taking care of others; it’s hard for her to accept she is now also a patient.

She recently had another unforeseen emergency hospital stay that has resulted in this next upcoming surgery. The doctors have told her she needs to scale back and rest.

I am reaching out for anyone that would like to help her cover her medical costs. As soon as she thinks she is going to get one bill paid off, another setback or new medical bill comes up and she can’t get ahead. If you know my sister, she would rather work 3 jobs than ask for any help, so I am asking because I see the financial need and feel like there are others that would also like to help.
