Join Us in Supporting the Hughes Family

Hello everyone! I have created this page for my amazing parents, Jeff and Kim Hughes. Anyone that knows them, knows that they would do anything for others in need or lend a helping hand. Recently, they have both been dealt a bad hand and have run into some medical issues.

My mom, Kim, is a registered nurse at a local hospital caring for lung patients. She has battled cervical cancer and is newly recovered from a knee replacement after injuring it while running to assist a patient in cardiac arrest. She recently learned in October that she has an aggressive form of breast cancer that has the potential to grow fast. Although we are very grateful it was found early, she will be undergoing a double mastectomy in the next couple of weeks to remove the cancer and prevent any future growths from occurring. This will mean more time off work and an additional surgery in January for reconstruction.

My, dad, Jeff, was a school bus driver for more than 20 years. He has had a heart aneurysm for the past few years that doctors have been keeping an eye on. However, his recent scan showed it is increasing in size. They also determined that he has severe aortic stenosis and will have to have open heart surgery in the near future to repair the heart valve. The first step is a heart catheterization, which he is scheduled for a week before my mom’s surgery.

The old saying goes, “when it rains, it pours,” and it feels as though a storm is constantly brewing over these two amazing people. I ask for your support for both of them in the next few months as they undergo multiple procedures and spend days in recovery. Anything can make a difference and will be very much appreciated!
