These are my parents, Kathryn and Thomas Bloom. They are honest, hardworking, generous and humble people who would never ask anyone for anything, but they have found themselves in a time of need, so I am here to do that on their behalf.
Right after Thanksgiving, Thomas had what we believed to be a stroke. After visiting the ER at Grace Cottage, it was quickly determined that there was more going on, and he was transported over 2 hours away to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT- the nearest neurological center with an open bed. Once there, it was found that he had, among other things, a large brain tumor that required immediate surgery, which was performed last Thursday evening. Though I hope to preserve as much privacy as possible for Thomas, I will say that the past few days have been very painful and very difficult, and he is still in the ICU as of today. We are still unsure of his recovery plan, but we know that at a minimum (and with best case scenario), it will be at least six months before he is able to drive or operate machinery as is necessary to run his small business. He will also require daily trips to a medical center (location TBD) for continued care.
My mother, Kathy, has been at his side since the moment they went to the ER, and has been staying at the hospital with him. She sleeps in a chair next to his bed, and is not only there for support, but is also providing comfort care to him as the hospital is short staffed. She will be out of work for at least the next three months providing care for him at home, and taking him to his daily appointments. We do not yet understand the full implications of this unfortunate medical emergency, but we do know that the road ahead is long and challenging.
With both of my parents out of work for the foreseeable future, and with medical bills rising by the day, I feel compelled to reach out to our community and ask for support. I know that this is a hard time of year, but any donation to keep them going is very much appreciated. If you are unable to donate, I ask that you please share this link to help spread the word. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and willingness to show these wonderful people love! Please continue to pray for Thomas' recovery, and for Kathryn's strength as they continue to fight through this unexpected and challenging time in their lives.
