Sam Hodous is an exceptional person, and anyone he connects with can instantly feel a draw to his passion and enthusiasm. As a devoted son, loving husband to his wife Mary, caring father to his now 4-year old son Obi, supportive brother, son and cherished friend, Sam’s life is a testament to his commitment to those he loves and to the community he serves. Dr. Sam, as his patients adoringly refer to him, creates connections with in a unique way that is truly transformative on their Physical Therapy journey. His expertise, love for movement and compassionate approach have touched countless lives.

Sam is not just a skilled physical therapist and lover of kettlebells, but also is mentor who inspires others with his vast knowledge and eagerness to always learn and share. His supportive nature, collaborative energy, and optimism and make him a guiding light for those around him.
On August 21, 2024, Sam received a devastating diagnosis of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). At his young age of 35, an admiringly strong & fit body, and career of helping other's solve their physical limitations, this news is especially heartbreaking. Over the past 13 months, Sam's body has quickly deteriorated. His powerful athletic physique is now bound to a wheel chair with significant muscular atrophy. With the loss of his verbal abilities, his witty comments, encouraging words, and charm are now that of digital communication. But what is most changed is that his wife, Mary, had to leave her job in order to be his full-time care-taker. It is a job that is physically taxing, emotionally exhausting, and a reminder of how their life has changed. She provides care around the clock 24/7, to her husband. She is also a mother to their 4 year old son Obi. A growing pre-schooler who is smart, funny, sweet, the only one who keeps Sam smiling during these dark days. While we can easily see the strain of ALS on Sam, we don't always see it on Mary & Obi and their lives.

As the Hodous family navigates this new chapter, Sam's stretch of community across the country & the world are coming together to support him and his family. We invite you to join us in raising funds to help alleviate the financial burdens associated with ALS and ensure that Sam, Mary and Obi have as much support as we can provide.
Your generosity and support will not only help Sam manage the challenges ahead but also honor the incredible person he is and the positive impact he continues to make on so many lives, and support his loving family who has, and will continue to do anything to support Sam during these days.
