Marek “Mark” Kolanko, 55, of Bloomingdale, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on October 15, 2024, at 11:55 PM, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 27, 1969, in Odrzykon, Poland, Mark was the eldest of four children of the late Józef and Maria Kolanko.

Mark graduated from a mechanical technical school as a WES mechanic, and he fulfilled his duty to his homeland by serving in the Polish Army from 1987 to 1991. On December 26, 1993, he married his soulmate, Margaret, and in 1994, they embarked on a new chapter in the United States after winning the Green Card Lottery. Together, they pursued their American dream and welcomed their first son, Michael, in 1997. In 2001, they settled into their forever home in Bloomingdale, where they later completed their family with the birth of their second son, Matt in 2004.

Mark was a highly skilled mason, dedicating over 30 years to his craft and his company. His work went beyond just laying bricks; he was an artisan who took immense pride in every project. His dedication to providing for his family was unwavering, and he built not only with his hands but with his heart.

On January 5, 2024, Mark faced a daunting battle when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Despite enduring countless treatments with courage, he passed away on October 15. Mark was known for his warm smile, bright eyes, and a spirit that touched everyone who knew him. His kindness, strength, and craftsmanship left a lasting impression on many, and he will be deeply missed.

Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Malgorzata “Margaret”; his sons, Michael and Matt; his brother, Paweł, wife Joanna and their children, Sofia and Jakub; his sister, Sylwia, and her daughter, Julia; and his sister, Justyna. His family will continue to cherish the legacy of love and resilience he leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to support the family with medical expenses would be appreciated.

A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church 454 Germantown Rd., West Milford, NJ 07480 on Thursday October 24, 2024 at 6PM.
