Hi! I am Diana Groome, my husband is David Groome. A few months ago my husband started having problems opening his mouth and swallowing. We went to the doctor and he suggested the dentist as he thought it was TMJ the dentist took an X-ray and told us they didn't deal with TMJ so we went back to the doctor. He suggested physical therapy where they did stretching, exercises and Ultrasound but nothing improved. The therapist noticed something different under his tongue. She told us she felt it was more than TMJ. My 90 year old father is also battling cancer having beat colon cancer in March and now its in 1/2 of his liver, he needed a colonoscopy for the doctors at Roswell in Buffalo, the doctor was Dave's doctor in Coudersport who had done banding some varacies in the esophagus for Dave and he referred him to the Ear Nose and Throat specialist. The morning of the appointment the ENT office wanted to cancel the appointment telling us they didn't deal with TMJ but when we told them his symptoms they told us to go to the appointment that day. The PAC did an exam and located the tumor on the left bottom of the tongue and took a scope down the nose and found the tumor around the carotid artery and the juglar vein in the throat. We then traveled to Pittsburgh to UPMC and saw the doctor who did tests and it is cancer. He was put in a trach and a feeding tube. I am now clearing the trach twice a day and feeding him liquid supplements along with his meds through a tube to the stomach every half hour for 2 hours for each meal. We are now going to be starting treatment of radiation and chemo August 28th in Williamsport. He has a good prognosis. We are not people who normally ask anyone for help with anything, but so many have reached out wanting to help in some way and I tell them I am doing ok. Im also looking after my father who is healing from surgery to attempt to take out the part of the liver but it grew too big and they couldn't remove it, his next step is Roswell in a few weeks to have radiation beads placed into the liver and the start of chemo pills. I am trying so hard to get two of my favorite people on this earth better and mending by the holidays. We know there are many people struggling in this country at present and we understand if you can't help but we could use your prayers. My father is our former Cameron County Waterways Patrolman, Stan Hastings. Please pray for us.
