Chad was diagnosed with colon cancer in December of 2023. He had started getting pale in color and was getting short of breath doing ordinary things in his day-to-day life. After undergoing some employer sponsored bloodwork, his primary care doctor determined that he was losing blood and sent him to the ER for a blood transfusion and iron. After some imaging performed in the ER, it was determined that he had a spot in his colon that was causing the blood loss. A colonoscopy was performed, the lesion was removed, and it was determined to be cancerous. He underwent a colectomy in January of 2024, which included taking approximately a foot of his colon to include the lymph nodes that it had infiltrated. He had a port placed in February to aid in the administration of chemotherapy, which caused fatigue, cold sensitivity, and neuropathy in his feet that remains. Chad took time off work to concentrate on his mounting doctor appointments and healing. On December 6th, Chad underwent a now routine CT scan that showed a new lesion on his liver. After undergoing a PET scan, it was confirmed that the colon cancer has metastasized to his liver.
Chad is scheduled to see a surgeon to determine whether this tumor can be removed surgically or by ablation. He has a tentative surgery date of January 27th. Chad is looking at more time off from work, more healing, and the possibility of further cancer treatment. Chad and his new wife, Colleen, have a blended family of 5 children. Chad followed in the footsteps of his dad and has worked in the coal mines for the last 19 years. When Chad isn’t working, he can be found in the garage working on his son’s mini wedge, at a dirt track watching his son’s race, or just spending time with his family. Chad is an amazing father, husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He’s been married less than a month and his youngest daughter is 2. We are hoping to help keep his focus on his health, and allow his family the ability to just focus on him while they navigate the upcoming months of medical treatment.
