Baby Everlyn was born and delivered on 11/16/24 at 1:49 am, after my water broke at 11:15 pm on 11/14/24. She sat in her amniotic fluid for 27 hours of labor. She was also stuck in the birth canal for over 3 hours, which caused her heart rate to drop multiple times, causing a lack of oxygen to the brain during the labor process.

Once Everlyn was finally born, she didn’t have the strength to breathe on her own due to an air pocket above the lungs called a pneumothorax (we were informed later by the doctors) and was rushed to the NICU to be put on a CPAP machine along with a cooling pad to keep her body temperature regulated, to be able to take brain activity scans and ensure the rest of her body wouldn’t need to function while running their tests. We weren’t able to hold or bond with Everlyn for the first four days of her life. There were so many wires and machines that she was hooked up to, that it was incredibly difficult to see and very traumatic for both of us to witness. Every time Everlyn is un-swaddled or held, her hands and legs are shooting into the air, showing that she loves being "free." She is very much reactive to being held by her parents and responds to knowing that they are there.

With everything that baby Everlyn has gone through, we weren’t even able to think about what the cost of the medical bills would amount to.
