The Brunswick Fire Company No. 1 is asking for your support to help our Asst. Chief David Plew. Dave is battling stage 4 renal carcinoma (kidney) cancer. Dave is a 30 year member of the fire company and has held nearly every rank and has served as an Asst Chief for the last 9 years.
Since he was just 5 years old, Dave had an interest in firetrucks. He lived within walking distance from the Watervliet Fire Department and would ride his bike there everyday and got to know the firefighters there sparking his interest in becoming a firefighter.
Dave married his wife Paula and purchased a house in Troy and applied to Brunswick No. 1 in 1994. Dave’s son Matt followed in his footsteps and joined Brunswick No. 1 in 2014. Matt served with us for 5 years, working alongside and learning from his dad. Matt is currently a member of the Clinton Heights Fire Department.
Dave has made many friendships throughout the fire service. He is beloved by not only the members of Brunswick No. 1 but by his fellow firefighters in departments across Rensselaer County and beyond.
Dave is not afraid to get his hands dirty. Even as an Assistant Chief he still picks up a handline, grabs the rescue tools and rolls hose. He takes great joy in teaching and mentoring the next generation of firefirefighters and training right alongside them.
