In January 2025, Amy Bradshaw, beautiful mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, fiancé (Andy), and friend, was diagnosed with stage 2 gastric cancer.
We were all very hopeful her journey to recovery and health would be quick and easy. Five months in, Amy is receiving chemotherapy, proton therapy, and immunotherapy. Although some positive progress has been made, the cancer is not giving up without a fight.
• Amy started with a tumor embedded in the wall of her stomach.
• Because of the tumor’s position and other factors, surgery was judged to be the very last method of attack. Treatment began in January with chemotherapy, with proton therapy and immunotherapy added in April.
• A recent MRI shows that targeted proton therapy has been effective in shrinking the mass, but the MRI also showed that six small, new spots have developed, all close to the original tumor.
• Moving forward, treatment will focus on proton therapy for the original mass and the additional small tumors that have developed. Immunotherapy will also continue as her immune system needs all the support it can get. As of today, it’s unclear if chemotherapy will be discontinued or not.
We are grateful the cancer has not spread to her lymphatic system or beyond her stomach.
Those of you who know Amy know she is tough. She has the will and determination to get through this scary and uncomfortable time.
Her medical team is optimistic, but her treatments must continue for several more months. Treatment is extremely costly, with the price to Amy, per treatment, for proton therapy at $2500 when covered by insurance, and $6200 when uncovered by insurance. Of the sixteen treatments Amy needs per month, only eight are covered by insurance. That’s nearly $70,000 per month! Immunotherapy and chemotherapy are less expensive, thank goodness.
Regardless of the cost, it will be worth every penny to keep Amy with us all, to enjoy and experience all the ups and downs of life with us. Amy is ready to get back to camping, hiking, exploring, and having fun with family and friends. She is a devoted mother who wants many, many more years with her children.
Our hope is that this GoFundMe page will help Amy keep fighting. We genuinely appreciate any support. Donations will be used to help pay for treatments and medications, diagnostic testing (MRI and CT scans, bloodwork, etc.), and doctor fees.
Thank you so much for your support!
