I want to tell you about my friend. This is Amy. Amy recently received a life-saving kidney transplant after waiting 3.5 years. But let me tell you a little about her.
Amy is many things to many people. She spent over 20 years as a social worker in state child welfare working tirelessly to make lives better for the children and families of TN. Treating those families like they were her very own. She volunteered and interned with the local Child Advocacy Center. She goes and she teaches cooking classes to the ladies in recovery at a local drug/alcohol rehab center and loves on those ladies there. Got a new baby? She’s on the doorstep with a casserole. Someone in the family pass away? She’s coordinated food for the family. Benefit, school fundraiser, whatnot? She’s baking cakes. And in her “spare” time, she cooks for the public to raise funds to go visit her kiddo in the USAF and not only cook for him, but as many hungry, home-sick, need-a-hug Airmen as he brings her while she’s there.
In 2021, Amy had a severe case of COVID which left her in kidney failure. So she has not only done all those things I just mentioned, she did them ALL while battling for her life. Spending 8 out of every 24 hours of her life on a dialysis machine. She never let being sick deter her from helping others, doing for others, making sure others were doing well.
July 26, Amy lost her job. And with her job, her insurance as well. But now let me tell you about God. August 31 was to be her last day without insurance and her dialysis port started to come out. She was in the ER in Vanderbilt when she got a call they had a kidney for her!!!!!! She was there to get her port replaced and left with a brand new kidney! But at midnight, that insurance ended and medical bills are astronomical for organ transplant. Not to mention all the trips back and forth for clinics to make sure the new kidney is functioning perfectly. One anti-rejection medication is $2000 “after” insurance (which she no longer has).
So while Amy now has a new lease on life with this kidney, she and her husband are without an income nor insurance as a result of the job loss. I have watched Amy give and give and give of herself, sometimes at great cost to herself for others. Would you please help me make this VIRAL and help me give back? Please share this link with everyone you know. Please share it across every social media platform you know and let’s wrap Amy up in the love she pours into others.
