- Hello everyone! This is Kona aka Koney. She is a 10-year-old German Shepherd we have had in our family since the day she was surrendered, found abandoned in a house at only 4 weeks of age. She is a great dog and a part of our family, helping raise our 2 kids their entire lives. Kona has had her medical ailments like any family pet does, but now we need your help. Kona developed a bone mass that we noticed almost immediately about 6 weeks ago that has started eating away at the bone. She is in a lot of pain and has been seen by 3 veterinarians, including being referred to oncology. The treatment now to keep her comfortable and prolong her life is amputation of her rear leg. From there, we test the mass and reassess for further treatments. We are not selfish in choosing to do this vs. euthanizing. Kona has had labs and chest X-rays showing she is otherwise a perfectly healthy dog. It is not her time to go. Even with not being able to use her leg and all the pain she is in, she still brings me her toys to play with just days ago. We are scheduled for surgery this week and will be starting around $7500. From there, we will be beginning physical therapy and possibly chemo treatments depending on what we get as a definitive diagnosis. Our family knows this GoFundMe will not cover everything. We are prepared to be in a hardship ourselves to pay all the costs and are currently applying for grants to help assist. Thank you for reading our story and helping save our Koney.
