**** I have copy and pasted information on the Amoeba infection.
Amoebiasis is a common intestinal infection caused by the microscopic parasite Entamoeba histolytica, primarily transmitted through food or water contaminated with human feces. Symptoms, often appearing 2–4 weeks after exposure, range from mild diarrhea and stomach cramps to severe, bloody diarrhea (dysentery). It is treated with prescription antiparasitic medications, such as metronidazole.
Symptoms of Amoebiasis
Most infected individuals (80-90%) do not become sick, but those who do may experience:
Loose, watery stools
Abdominal pain and cramping
Fatigue and unintentional weight loss
Severe cases (amoebic dysentery) involve bloody stools, fever, and vomiting.
Rare, severe cases can involve the parasite spreading to the liver, causing an amoebic liver abscess.
Causes and Transmission
Cause: Entamoeba histolytica.
Transmission: Fecal-oral route (ingesting food/water contaminated with fecal matter).
Risk Factors: Traveling to or living in tropical areas with poor sanitation.
Treatment
Amoebiasis is effectively treated with antibiotics, often a combination of medications to kill the parasite in the intestine and any that may have invaded tissue.
Brain-Eating Amoeba (Naegleria fowleri)
A separate, rare, and fatal infection caused by Naegleria fowleri, which enters the brain through the nose while swimming in warm freshwater, causing Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM). Symptoms include severe headache, fever, nausea, and vomiting.
Note: The information above pertains to intestinal amoebiasis (Entamoeba histolytica). If symptoms are severe or persistent, medical attention is required.
