Hi, my name is Sarah, and I am the director of the Belize Raptor Center. Last year we received a grant that allowed us to buy a Blood chemistry machine. This new technology has opened our eyes to the impact that rodenticide is having on our raptors. Our newest ambassador, Ixchel, broke our hearts but also lit a fire in our team to do something drastic for Belize and her beautiful, diverse Wildlife, especially our magnificent birds of prey. Partnering with the Pesticide Control Board of Belize we are launching a country wide Educational campaign with the ultimate focus of phasing out rodenticide from Belize after teaching IPM and giving better rodent managament methods to our pest control companies. We have begun recruiting volunteers from all districts so our voice will be louder and go further ❤️
This is start of something amazing, that, with YOUR help, will make HISTORY!!!
IMAGINE the beautiful Jewel, Belize, becoming the first country in the Americas to make such a stand for our Wildlife and the health of our environment. Please join us, as we cannot do this without the help of our supporters and community!
Why This Matters
Rodenticides, commonly used for pest control, pose a significant threat to wildlife, especially birds of prey such as hawks, owls, and eagles. These predators often consume rodents contaminated with poison, leading to secondary poisoning that can decimate local raptor populations. These raptors are not only iconic symbols of Belize’s rich biodiversity but also essential indicators of ecological health.
Our Goals
Educate communities about poison-free pest management alternatives.
Raise awareness about the harmful impacts of rodenticides on wildlife and ecosystems.
Collaborate with local leaders, schools, and organizations to implement sustainable pest control practices.
Monitor and document the effects of educational efforts on reducing poison use and utilizing natural pest control via habitat building (Barn owl box project), installing hunting perches in strategic placement through crop fields, switching out rat bait for rodent birth control which has no secondary effect on avian and reptilian species.
Join Us in Making a Difference
To support this important campaign, I am humbly asking for you to join forces with us at BRC and make a monetary donation to help us reach our BIG GOALS!!! All proceeds raised will go toward educational materials, community workshops, and Integrated Pest Management activities.
