On Tuesday Oct 22, Noah had a 7 minute grand mal seizure during his PSAT exams. He doesn’t remember anything about it and woke up in the ambulance. His friends teacher and counselors all witnessed this awful event. I got a very detailed recount from his counselor Les Brown so I could relay information so that a diagnosis wouldn’t be missed.
At the hospital they checked him out and everything was fine until the MRI results came through.
I remember starting to respond to a message from Michelle when I heard on the intercom “we have a critical result from radiology on 14”… Noah’s room was 14. A few minutes later the doctor came in trying to keep her calm and our calm, and told us they found a mass in his brain on the MRI and he needed to be transferred as fast as possible to stl or kc and we could choose. We chose KC and they accepted him immediately and said they were getting the Jet to bring him to the hospital. We were told to split up, only one parent could stay with him. So Jerard went home and started packing bags while I stayed with Noah.
In true Noah fashion he emailed all his teacher to let them know he wouldn’t be there! How crazy is this kid? First thing he could think of aside from his friends and girlfriend Addy, was he needed to let his teachers know so he wouldn’t have this counted against him ♀️
He started in the PICU so they could watch him close for more seizures but the meds were keeping those away and they let us have a regular room. He's in room 6H14 (6th floor Henson room 14) at Children’s Mercy in downtown KC.
So far they are trying to rule everything out and avoid a biopsy. The spinal MRI is clear so praises for that there is no other masses. They are prepping him for a lumbar puncture now in hopes there are cells floating around that can identify the mass in his brain.
Please continue prayers that whatever this is, the doctors can treat it and get him on the road to recovery. This is obviously a terrifying experience and it doesn’t even seem real yet because we don’t have an official diagnosis, but I also know when we do it will likely feel so real that we can’t hardly keep ourselves together.
Jerard and I are with him at the hospital and have a room until Sunday with the RMHC room, and hopefully we will get a space at the houses for the rest of the time we will be here and whatever the treatment plan may be.
Please keep my mom, London, Eli, and brother David and SIL Kelley in your prayers as they are worried and trying hard to keep life as normal as possible while also getting mom moved to Springfield and her house sold.
People have been bringing in food and donating - we are incredibly grateful for that, Jerard’s only gets 2 paid weeks and we will likely have plenty of bills and more. My Venmo is
