Dear Friends and Family,

** Update
Last week, we launched a GoFundMe campaign to support a meaningful project, the building of a school and a well in Kenya. We have been truly overwhelmed by the love and generosity from our friends and family.

Thanks to your incredible support we were able to meet our initial goal within the first 48 hours and even exceed it in the days that followed. We are deeply humbled and grateful.

Because of your generosity, this project now has the potential to grow into something even more meaningful: an annual gift of $5k that continues in Kristin's name forever. We will be sharing more details about this in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, here are some pics from the last project Kristin and Scott supported. Now that funds are secure, construction on the next school will start in the coming weeks and we'll be there in 2 months to bring it to completion.

If you've already donated, thank you. It has meant so much to read your names and reflect on the many memories we share.

If you feel moved to do so, we would be grateful if you shared the GoFundMe link with others. If you haven't yet donated, there is still an opportunity to be part of building a lasting legacy in Kristin's honor.

This June, we have the opportunity to be part of something truly meaningful, building a school and a life-changing water project for an African village in desperate need. We are reaching out to ask for your support in making this vision a reality.

The school will be named in honor of my mom, Kristin Rose.

Those who know my mom understand the joy and purpose she found during her trip to Africa in 2024, where she helped build a school in a small village outside the city of Mombasa, Kenya. While there, painting classrooms and building desks, she began to notice something wasn’t right. Her left arm wasn’t working as it should. Tragically, that “something” was later diagnosed as a glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer that has since turned her life upside down.

Despite this, Kristin’s passion for helping others continues to inspire all of us.

My mom has dedicated her life to education and service. She volunteered for years as an Art Literacy Director in the Beaverton School District, tutored students of all ages in math and statistics, and most recently taught English to individuals in Peru seeking better opportunities for employment. Her impact has been profound, and this project is a way to carry forward her legacy.

Every year, the Mountain Stars basketball program presents its 16-year-olds with the opportunity to build a school for an African village. The village selected has to meet local government standards and provide 10% sweat equity to the project. My dad, Scott Rose, has been coaching and helping the Mountain Stars program for the last couple of years, and I have been able to see how meaningful this opportunity is to the program, the village, and everyone involved. We want to extend the invitation to be involved as we are raising funds for this project.

On top of the school, we want to provide a well for the village that will drastically change their lives. As I have been studying for my masters in civil engineering, this provides a unique opportunity for me to contribute and will be a special experience.

Our goal is to raise:
- $10,000 to complete the school
- $15,000 to build a well that will provide 35,000 liters of clean water each day

This water project will dramatically improve daily life, health, and opportunity for the entire village. The schools have raised the number of kids from these villages attending college from zero to over a hundred. A pretty remarkable feat that we hope to continue.

100% of all donations will go directly toward the construction of the school and the well. Donations made directly on this GoFundMe site are not tax-deductible. For tax-deductible 501(c)(3) donations, please donate directly to Koins for Kenya with the following instructions:
  • Under Donation Destination, select Mountain Stars Project
  • Under Comments or Questions, write Kristin Rose

Any contribution, large or small, will make a difference. More than that, it will help extend Kristin’s love, compassion, and commitment to children and families who need it most.

Thank you for your generosity, your prayers, and your support in honoring Kristin in such a powerful and lasting way.

With gratitude,
Mitch Rose
