King LH Community- Help Heidi Find Housing

Donation protected
Dear Friends and Classmates of King Community,

For our beloved classmate, Heidi Vogt Calloway (LH ’73), later life has been a struggle and she is currently homeless and at the mercy of Social Welfare agencies.

What happened to Heidi? A graduate of Swarthmore College and class valedictorian, she sacrificed a promising career with a major network to help save her family’s restaurant. Later, she became a widow with three young children to raise and support. Somehow, she managed and launched her children as adults. One of her last paying jobs was taking care of three of her four grandchildren. Unfortunately, serious health problems over the last years grew more debilitating and impeded her ability to work, and over time, she lost her car, her apartment, and finally, her way forward. Her children and brothers have been helping for years but the chronic nature of Heidi’s problems has caused them to be overwhelmed and search for answers outside the family. Her only safety net has been local social welfare agencies.

This fund has been created as a way for her to get back on her feet and begin the task of rebuilding her life. Classmates and friends have stepped in to help her navigate the social welfare system, but the financial piece remains a roadblock. Please contribute what you can to help Heidi secure a low-income rental and some basic needs, as the situation is dire. A big thank you to all and please feel free to share this post.
