Fundacion Las Parcelas all started with a spontaneous moment of compassion. Allow me to elaborate. Andrea Hernandez was at church one day in the neighborhood of "El Castillo" in Santiago, Chile. For those of you who have never been to Chile, it's perhaps one of the most beautiful countries in the world. However, one part of Chile you will never see on TV documentaries is the neighborhoods of Santiago like "El Castillo". El Castillo is located in the "comuna" (similar to our word for borough) of La Pintana and it is preceded with a reputation of drug related violence and poverty. It is not a place you would walk around by yourself, especially at night. Well this particular day, Andrea noticed some children outside of the church huffing glue. She asked them why they were doing this and their response was that it suppressed their hunger. Having suffered atrocities herself as a child, she was taken back by their words and decided she needed to act. She offered to feed them if they would stop huffing the glue. Soon after, word spread and Andrea was feeding more than 100 kids every week!
That was over 20 years ago. She didn't stop at food either. Andrea and her family did everything within their power to meet as many of the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of these children and their families. The children who have benefitted from our ministry will tell you that their best childhood memories were from the activities that we provided for them.
In 2018, Fundacion Las Parcelas entered a transition period where the focus of the ministry shifted to opening an orphanage. We started taking in the children who were in most need. This has proved to be more work than we anticipated, especially considering the situations of abuse and neglect that the children come from. Right now, we have 8 children within our care at the home. There are so many more kids who could use our help too, but we are short staffed and cannot keep up with just 8. So we are working together to build a bigger team and we need your help!!
Andrea never imagined what this ministry would turn into that day when she answered the call to feed those kids. Our goal is that the heart of Andrea would outlive all of us as we build the future of Fundacion Las Parcelas. When I first visited Fundacion Las Parcelas in 2012, I was blown away by the genuine generosity and love that was shared with the hurting people. In fact, I dropped everything and followed suit because I could not avoid being part of something so special. I invested many years of my life since then working one on one with hundreds of people in "El Castillo". Today I am the administrator of this amazing ministry and I consider it the highest honor. And I hope you feel honored by being a part of it too.
Your donations will go directly to helping the lives of real people. Behind the pictures and stories, there is a soul just like yours and mine. The only difference is that the souls of these children are so broken. You do not know how much your donations mean to us and how far they go. Thank you for your support. God bless you.
Current and near future projects:
1) Finish caretaker's home
2) Start outdoor pavilion
3) Architectural plans for new facility
4) Day to day activities and upkeep
Immediate financial needs/goals:
1) Monthly cost of operations is currently between $10,000 and $12,000. This includes all the physical and educational needs of the children.
2) Remaining costs to finish the caretaker's home is around $7,000
Vocational needs:
1) We need people to fill various roles such as a secretary, social media manager, caretakers, housekeepers, school transportation, maintenance/construction, etc.. The people or groups who fill these roles would have to undergo an interview process and would be subject to a background check. Spanish is a must unless traveling with an interpreter. Looking for people who could raise their own support although potential paid positions will be available in the future.
