Hi, I am a 68-year-old woman on a fixed income that has a soft spot for animals. "Jake" was dropped off in my neighborhood one month ago. I encountered Jake during my nightly walks with my dog, and he was getting thinner every day. I began bringing food with me on my walks and feeding him. A week later, I was late on my walk, and he showed up at my door for a meal. He is not chipped, there are no lost posters, and no one responded to online inquiries. The county shelter is full with a 15-day euthanasia policy. Local rescues are full and require vaccinations to be done before they would consider accepting him. It took me 2 weeks to get him to trust me enough to get in my truck and go to a low-cost organization to get him vaccinated. He has heartworms. My choices are to either have him euthanized or treat him for heartworms. He is a beautiful, smart, loving, 98 lbs. of foolishness. For him to have any chance of finding a forever home, he will need to be heartworm-free. I am requesting the public's assistance in helping me fund his heartworm treatment and post-treatment preventative. And, if anyone near Houston, Texas would want a great dog, let me know.
