“When I Hit 20, I Always Do 22”

Shawn has always been the kind of person who quietly pushes the people around him to be better. His dad, Clark, shared a simple story that captures who Shawn is.

Years ago, when they would work out together, Shawn told his dad that studies showed you had to do about 20 reps before you really got any benefit from the exercise. So whenever Clark was lifting and he reached 20, he couldn’t stop thinking about what Shawn had said. Because of Shawn, he never stopped at 20. He always did 22.

Clark says Shawn has always been his inspiration in the gym. Even now, when Shawn is facing something far harder than any workout, that memory keeps Clark going. Every time he hits 20 reps, he thinks of his son and pushes for two more.

That is who Shawn is: the quiet strength behind other people’s courage, the reason they don’t give up when things get hard.

The Battle Shawn Is Facing

Stage 4 colon and liver cancer has turned Shawn’s life upside down. Treatments, medications, appointments, and hospital visits have become part of his daily reality. The physical toll is immense, but so are the financial pressures—medical bills, travel for care, lost income, and all the hidden costs that come with a long, difficult fight.

Through all of this, Shawn continues to show the same determination and heart that once pushed his dad to “do 22.” He is fighting with everything he has, but he and his family cannot do it alone.
