Join Us in Caring for This Inspiring Couple

I'm starting this go fund me for my beautiful daughter and her amazing husband. Paul and Cari have struggled with so much the last few years. Cari and Paul have humbly kept most of these struggles pretty private. Last year, after a hospital stay, a scan showed Cari had white matter lesions on the brain. These are common in older people, but the amount seen was way too high for someone her age. A neurologist at the University told them it was nonspecific and nothing could be done but help assist with pain and watch to make sure the lesions didn't grow or increase. This was very scary considering Caris medical history, and immune system. Over the last 18 months, Cari has undergone surgery, several hospital stays, and is being treated by a medical team of neurologists, pain specialists, and holistic doctors. While they had some success, a few months back, Cari had a fall. During the recovery, another brain scan was done, and she was immediately referred to a special neurologist in SLC. They found out the white lesions have increased and multiplied and for obvious reasons this is very concerning. It also comes with more intensity and frequency of symptoms. Recently, Cari has been in debilitating pain, suffering dizzy spells, vision loss in one eye, and loss of balance. Paul and Cari are traveling back and forth to Salt Lake several times a week and pay some of the medical doctors out of pocket. Not only do they have the burden of these added expenses, but because of the amount of pain, Cari has had to cut back her hours at work dramatically, causing even more financial burden. Between surgeries, ambulance rides, hospital stays, medications, specialists, etc, they have over $150,000 and growing of medical expenses. Paul and Cari have lived super active lives, and to witness her in this state has been heartbreaking to everyone who knows them. Paul is hardworking and has been employed with the same company for over 25 years. To know them two is to love them. I've seen countless times, as they were at rock bottom, unselfishly helping other people, and could always be counted on. In spite of everything they were going through, they chose to carry the weight of this diagnosis privately, humbly, and with great strength. Even now, in her current state, I've never witnessed Cari or Paul complain or ask for help. She truly is one of the strongest people I know, always positive and always with a smile. And together, one of the sweetest couples. I would love to see my daughter receive the medical care she needs and have one less burden put on them. The love they show our community, I would love to see given back to them. The funds donated will go directly to Paul and Cari to cover medical bills, travel expenses to and from appointments, gas money, and loss of wages.
