Hello, we are writing this on behalf of our mom, Laurie. She recently found out that she needs full mouth reconstructive surgery due to severe bone atrophy in her upper and lower jaw bones. The procedure she needs has been turned in to her insurance company for prior approval but it has been denied three times because it is not covered under her dental policy. Our mom will need at least three surgeries and they've scheduled the first one for October 21, 2024. Because there is no insurance coverage, the surgeons want to be paid upfront and, collectively, the bills total over $103,000. She will need bone grafting to replace the resorption of bone and permanent pins will be needed to secure the completion of the procedure. When that starts to heal, cadaver bone will be added to her sinus cavity through the top of her upper cheeks in preparation for the top surgery. After the first surgery, and the sinus surgery has healed, they can then move on to her upper surgery. This is just a short synopsis of what all is entailed. This is affecting our mom's current health since she is not able to get the vital nutrients she needs from eating foods the way she should. Without these surgeries, the doctor stated that our mom is likely to develop medical comorbidities and this is absolutely medically necessary.
